I can't imagine how many people just buy into the Hires thing and never realize they are listening to downsamples by the crappy Windows mixer (as it's know in audiophile circles). When you purchase tracks, you can select your preferred audio quality which ranges from 320kbps/128kbps lossy MP3 files to 24-bit/192kHz quality FLAC files. Wasapi exclusive mode only, or possibly ASIO though I can't test that on my Toslink output). Qobuz has over 70 million tracks in Hi-Fi quality and over 424,000 albums in Hi-Res quality. The goal of Qobuz is to provide high-quality, digitally delivered music for serious. I think Qobuz ought to ship its desktop app with clear instructions on how to set this thing up (e.g. And this will be system wide even when you leave Qobuz, so e.g. Recent updates have addressed the main reason. It also lets you buy and download music outright. In the image below my DAC is receiving a 96 kHz stream even though I am playing a CD-quality track in Qobuz. Qobuz not only offers lossless streaming, but better-than-CD quality music for recent releases. In order to output another sample rate than 48 kHz you have to specify it in the Advanced tab as in the following image, but this leads Windows to upsample everything to the setting you choose. Wasapi vanilla and DirectSound is still outputting 48 kHz to my DAC. These settings in the image below, where I have upped the sample rates to 96 kHz does not have any effect at all. Untick them all and you still will hear sounds from the chosen device. It's not like activating and deactivating a certain sample rate. When you tick the sample rate boxes in the sound control panel, it doesn't do anything what I can see, it's just a visual confirmation of what sample rates your device is capable of outputting.
